DTM takes on Brands Hatch
September 5th, 2008Last Sunday saw Brands Hatch play host to the UK leg of the DTM Championship, and a chance for local driver Oliver Jarvis to add more points to his championship battle.
Oliver qualified on Saturday in 6th place, a very good position considering he is driving a 2007 Audi A4 opposed to most of his competitors 2008 Audis and Mercedes’.
On Sunday the weather wasn’t so great but we took the plunge and made it down to Brands. We got there just as Lewis Hamilton was showing off in his Mercedes McLaren F1 car, doing doughnuts in front of an adoring crowd… very impressive!
When the lights went green Oliver got off the grid very well, pulling into 5th place on the first bend, but because of the lack of power soon dropped off into 6th again, he fought throughout the whole race to hold position, but toward the end of the race he made contact with another car and ended up in the gravel. When he re-joined the pack he had dropped down into 12th and that is where he finished. Not a bad result, but not what he wanted.
All in all, it was a very good day, extremely thrilling, action packed with plenty to see and do in between races…. including getting up close and personal with the F1 car.
You can track Olivers progress in the DTM championship through his website: www.oliverjarvis.com
I’ll be keeping a keen eye out for him and can’t wait for the next race meet in the UK.
